Leaky Gorton valves

Hello all. It's been quite a while since my last post.

I seem to have come across several leaky Gorton D steam vents over the last few months. I've been purchasing them from PexSupply and on every pressure cycle they hiss and whistle. I removed one just now and simply blew into the valve with my mouth (valve inverted so it closes) and it leaks slightly. That valve is about 3 weeks old.

My system is clean and pressurizes to about 9 ounces.

Has anyone else come across these leaky guys or am I just lucky?

    Not with Gortons

But I've found the same thing with some Maid-O-Mist vents from Home Cheapo. On the M-O-M vents you can remove the orifice spud, and I found what looked like corrosion inside. These were inside sealed boxes, mind you.

It's quite possible that these vents aren't being stored properly, and they're getting damp and corroding. I'm not sure what to do about it though.

    Send them back

Gorton is very good about resolving issues with their product.

Home Depot will take back the Maid-O-Mists too.

Trouble is they'll probably put them right back in stock, which is one reason why you should never buy vents there.

I may be slow, but I'm learning. :-)
