Recently I was ask to install a wood add on boiler that the customer purchased. After reviewing the propose install, I inform the owner that the unit could not be installed legally in Mass. Needless to say the customer went into space after laying out $8,000 + tax & del charges
& rigging into the basement. Why is it that a water heater, oil or gas is not ASME and legal to install? The operating pressure for a water heater far exceed that of boiler. The expansion tank and other sundry items are not rated. This boiler manufacturer in question has sold thousands of units and not one problem. How many States required that residental boiler be ASME? Was the intent of ASME for Commercial ? Interesting note does your homeoners insurance require that the boiler and water heater be ASME ?
